GRE – FAQs

1.What’s  does the GRE test for?

-The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is an important step in the graduate school or business school application process. It assesses your verbal reasoning, numeric reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities—skills that have been honed over time, aren’t particular to one field of study but are crucial for all, and have been developed through time.

2.Who is eligible for GRE test?

-Regardless of age or educational background, anyone can sign up for this GRE exam. However, those wishing to enroll in master’s programs specially in North America must take the GRE.

3.How long is GRE valid?

The validity of GRE scores is five years. Five years after you take the test, ETS will maintain a copy of your score report on file. Schools accept GRE scores that were initially awarded up to five years ago since the GRE’s creators believe that scores are valid for that amount of time.

4.What is the difference between GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test?

-The GRE Subject Test evaluates a candidate’s proficiency in a particular subject, while the GRE General Test is taken by applicants wanting to pursue master’s degrees. The college or program where one is applying should always be consulted before registering for the Subject test to determine whether a GRE Subject test is genuinely required. Only then should a candidate take the topic test; otherwise, there is no need to take both the subject test and the general test.

  1. How to send GRE Score Reports to the colleges/universities/institutions?

Candidates are required to name four receivers of their scores at the test centre for the GRE General Test, which is administered by computer. They can choose not to transmit their score reports at that time and instead choose to send them later by paying an extra cost.

Candidates are required to name four score recipients while taking a test that is delivered on paper. By paying an additional cost, candidates have the option to forego reporting their scores at that time and send them later.

6.What is the fees of GRE test?

-Except for Turkey, China, India, Australia, and Nigeria, the GRE General Test costs $205 everywhere. India charges $213 for the GRE exam. The GRE subject test costs $150 everywhere, in contrast to the general test, whose price varies by location.

7.How long does it take to get GRE scores?

– After taking the GRE, you will get your official Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing scores 10–15 days later. When your results are ready, you’ll receive an email letting you know that they’re available on your My GRE account. Your final and official test-section scores are included in your official score report. This is the first time you’ll see your Analytical Writing section score.

8.What is the syllabus of GRE?

SHOULD I take the Computer-based GRE or the Paper-based GRE?

Many test takers are uncertain of the ideal GRE format. Although the GRE is available in both electronic and paper formats, the ETS encourages more test-takers to choose the computerized exam. The paper-based GRE is typically only provided in regions without computer-based testing facilities. In the entire world, very few places fit this description.

Of course, taking the GRE on a computer is less complicated. The fact that you can receive your verbal and quantitative section results right at the testing facility is a huge benefit. The wait time for the paper-based exam results, however, may be up to six weeks. Other advantages are-

  • As most of us spend our time on computers these days and speak frequently, typing is easier.
  • Another advantage of CBT is the simplicity of question review.
  • When keeping track of questions, you can mark the ones you want to address later. Paper can be difficult, and you are aware that human error might make you lose your composure during an exam.
  • You can plan for the next exam if you don’t meet your expectations because you get to see your results fairly quickly and there is no suspense that interferes with your everyday activities and concentration. Additionally, you will soon be able to search for universities based on your score or email your scores to institutions.
  • The interesting part is you will get scrap paper in CBT too

What are some tips to increase GRE verbal score?

-Your familiarity with the Verbal Reasoning part will determine how much time you spend preparing for the GRE. The quantity of accurate responses for each style of question determines your final score. Start off by quickly responding to the question for which you are certain of the correct responses. Hard questions shouldn’t require a lot of time to answer.

Time Intervals

Good Critical Reasoning abilities must be employed intelligently in order to eliminate incorrect replies. Moving on to simpler tasks is the proper course of action. Return to the challenging questions at the end and select the right response. The most important aspect of the Verbal Reasoning section is time management. It provides enough of room for considering the challenging answers as the time ratio increases.

More words in your memory (1500 to 2500) increase your chances of scoring highly in the Verbal Reasoning part. Flash cards are really helpful. It has a 100% chance of being true. reading frequently from the required textbooks, such as The Official Guide to the GRE updated General Test, Second Edition from ETS.
